The Story Of My Instagram Inspired Gallery Wall & The Pink Flamingo

You can’t be on every social media platform, right? More than three and you could be classed as addicted and for a long time Instagram would’ve pushed me over that edge. Then, when I launched this blog somehow I became more fickle than ever and fell out of love with Twitter and fell head over heels with Instagram. That was when I started oohing and aaahhing over all the gallery walls on my daily Insta feed scroll fest.

What’s a ‘gallery wall’ you are probably saying to yourself. I’ll come back to that. Firstly, a bit of the home styling  back story.

We are currently working our way around improving our new home,  a Victorian semi we’ve lived in for almost 16 months now. I’m trying to be patient as we are doing it bit by bit as mini projects as and when time and finances allow. We are currently working our way around remodelling the sitting room. Decor done, the blinds arrived and are up and we are waiting on the coveted velvet couch to arrive next month. If you’ve been following me you might’ve read an earlier post about my dilemma of why I felt I couldn’t buy a sofa online.

Then my attention turned to styling up the walls and putting our own personal touch to the room. Suddenly, I was aware of Instagram inspired gallery walls. They are like a mini art exhibition in your home, on your wall of your own curation. Everything that you like and love yourself; photos, quotes, drawings. The only limit is yourself and your imagination.

This is my flat lay on the sitting room floor of how I’m beginning to pull my own gallery wall together.

There is a gigantic pink flamingo in the room I hear you say. Yes I know they are on trend but I adore them and always have so I’m happy they are everywhere. They make me smile. I have a love of pink and at a push this was the most pink-ness I could get by Mr Bbed without too many proping questions. Pink? Pink!!!! A Pink Flamingo?? I switched off at the first mention of pink and swayed the conversation to ratchets and boiler pressure which threw him off the scent… lol lol!!

This particular pink flamingo is by Sofie Rolfsdotter and it was a silver wedding anniversary gift from my lovely mum. The trouble she went to to get this particular piece of wall art, well, that’s another story. Let’s just say he deserves pride of place. See that … I’m calling it ‘he’. I do this. Give inanimate objects a gender. Am I cray cray? Who cares anyway — I don’t that’s for sure.

The ‘Shine Bright’ picture was just something that caught my magpie like eye recently while dashing around doing the weekly supermarket sweep. The ‘Hope I Know You Are Appreciated’ was an anniversary card that I presented to Mr Bbed a couple of anniversaries ago because he always puts the bins out. It was very apt — our little ‘in’ joke. You can find a selection of these cards by the infamous Hurrah for Gin mum in her Etsy shop. I put it inside a frame from Next.

The gold sparkly stag head is another bit of bling I collected a couple of Christmases ago. Nothing is just for Christmas in our house. If I love it I love it unconditionally — all year round!

The plan is that I build up a wall of special mementos and they are going to be my feature gallery wall above said velvet couch when it arrives. Not sure how many I will need or what I am looking for — it’s a work in progress.

In the meantime check out some of the reasons I got this inspiration to create from Instagram….

This one unfortunately, I can’t find the credit for … isn’t it gorgeous?

So very soon I hope to do the grand unveiling of my very own Instagram inspired gallery wall with a pink flamingo.

Let me know in the comments if you have a gallery wall or have an Instagram favourite, won’t you? xoxo
